Cite Right: ASA Reference List
The reference list provides bibliographic information for each source cited in your assignment.
Citing an online journal article
To cite an online journal article, use the following order, formatting and punctuation:
Author Last name, First name. Year. “Title of Article.” Name of Publication in italics, volume #(issue #): page range.
Here's an example of an ASA online journal article citation:
Persell, Caroline Hodges. 2008. “How Sociological Leaders Teach: Some Key Principles.” Teaching Sociology, 36(2): 108-24.

Authors' Names
List all authors, but only the primary author’s name is inverted as Last name, First name.
Two Authors
Do not separate the first and second author by a comma. Instead use “and”:
On Screen Text: Paranaby, Patrick and Vincent Saco. 2004. “Frame and Strain: The Contributions of Mertonian Deviance Theory to an Understanding on Relationship between Celebrity and Deviant Behaviour” Deviant Behavior 25(1):1-26.
[On Screen: An arrow points to the and between Patrick and Vincent.]
More than Two Authors
Separate author names with a comma and include “and” before the final author name.
On Screen Text: Mclaughlin, Neil, Lisa Kowalcuk, and Kerry Turcotte. 2005. “Why Sociology Does Not Need to Be Saved: Analytic Reflections on Public Sociologies.” The American Sociologist 36(3-4):133-51

The reference list should be double-spaced unless otherwise indicated by your instructor. Don’t forget the hanging indent.
