Cite Right: MLA Works Cited List
What is a Works Cited list?
The Works Cited list provides bibliographic information for each source cited in your assignment
To cite an online journal article, use the following order, formatting and punctuation:
Last, First. “Title of Article.” Name of Journal in Italics, Volume number, Issue number. Year. Page-page. doi/url
Here's an example of an MLA citation online journal article citation:
Butler, Darrell L., and Martin Sellborn. “Barriers to Adopting Technology for Teaching and Learning.” Educause Quarterly. Vol. 24, no 2, 2002, pp. 22-28. doi: 10.1215/00183
Each source type has its own formatting guidelines.
Where does the Works Cited list go?
The Works Cited List goes on the last page.
What does the Work Cited List include?
All the sources you cite in your paper.
What should the works cited list look like?
The title should be “Works Cited”. Center the title at the top of the page. List your sources alphabetically: Last name, First name. It should be double-spaced throughout with no extra spaces between reference entries. Don’t forget the hanging indent.
